"beware of all enterprises that require new clothes."

Thursday

One thing I know is everything will work out. I have been blessed enough to see the big picture, and had the opportunity to experience complete awareness and undestanding. Just for a brief period, and it is not anything you can hold onto, however it showed me, everything is OK, even the most heinous, horrifying occurances. It will all be OK, in the end. It is part of the wisdom that allows me to abide.

Wednesday

"Brain: an apparatus with which we think we think."
Ambrose Bierce, again...

Tuesday

Dudes don't complain. Dudes roll with it (abide), or change it. As Mahatma Gandhi said,
"be the change you wish to see in the world."
Ummm, as a kind reader just pointed out, I used this same quote exactly two weeks ago (to the day!) Ummm, well , it's a good quote tho', eh?

Friday

"A person who doubts himself is like a man who would enlist in the ranks of his enemies and bear arms agains himself. He makes his failure certain by himself being the first person to be convinced of it."
Ambrose Bierce

Wednesday

"Speak when you are angry and you will make the best speech you will ever regret."
Ambrose Bierce
Ambrose was another writer, I don't know too much about him, but he must have had a good wit, because I have come across a few of his quotes.

Thursday

"Develop an interest in life as you see it; the people, things, literature, music - the world is so rich, simply throbbing with rich treasures, beautiful souls and interesting people. Forget yourself."
Henry Miller
OK, I won't let this turn into the "Henry Miller quotes page." But he was THE dude, no doubt, so we have to give him his due here. And if we want to live wisely, it may do a bit of good to ponder his words.

"I have no money, no resources, no hopes. I am the happiest man alive."
Henry Miller
Clearly one of the all-times dudes, the author Henry Miller had it all figured out at times (atleast until success messed things up).

Please note - I am posting before noon! I will try to make sure this never happens again.

It's Samuel Beckett's birthday today. Quite a playwright, and I imagine, a dude, in his day. So, for today's wisdom, we'll offer a quote from good 'ol Sam...
"I can't go on.
I'll go on.
"
Samuel Beckett
The dude abides, and Samuel goes on...

Wednesday

She may not be a dude, but few have said as many wise things as this dudette;
"Idealists foolish enough to throw caution to the winds have advanced mankind and have enriched the world."
Emma Goldman

Monday

"Everything is possible,

Only I am impossible..."

Carlos Drummond
Carlos Drummond de Andrade was Brazil's most loved poet. He recently passed away (1990?) and a Dutch film crew filmed a documentary of Brazilians reading his poetry. Not any poems, but poems he felt were too risque' to publish until after he passed away. An amazing video, O Amor Natural, very hard to find, and the only way find these poems (never published in English) translated into English (via Dutch!). If you can't find the video, aleast contemplate the beauty and expansiveness that comes with his quote above. Peace.

Sunday

"Pronoia Is the Antidote for Paranoia: How the Whole World Is Conspiring to Shower You With Blessings" is the elongated title of Free Will Astrology's Rob Brezsny new book. It has been compared to Be Here Now (written by Ram Das over thirty years ago). I am still reading this (as well as a dozen other books as per usual), here is my favorite quote at the moment from the book (but actually stated by Robert Anton Wilson) - "You should view the world as a conspiracy run by a very close-knit group of nearly omnipotent people, and you should think of those people as yourself and your friends."

Saturday

Back in the day I had a jeans jacket that had been painted by various artists, including myself. Across the back in large letters I wrote the Camus quote, "In order to be, don't seem." Words I have tried my best to live by. Don't attempt to be cool, be who you are, and you are already cool, and so much more...

Friday

Day Two... and the site abides...
Today's Wisdom has been popping up in random situations over the last couple of days:
"Fake it,
until you make it"

This wisdow has to come with a bit of clarification.
You can become "great" by lying and decete, and feel hollow, worthless and lost.
The dude doesn't want ANY of you out there going there, fake it until you make it, is about getting over heartbreak, or making a dream bigger than yourself come true.

Thursday

I don't really have any choice, it's obvious what wisdom I must spew on the first post...From the most famous Dude of them all...
"the dude abides..." You can get the DVD here.
